How to obtain a Criminal Record Certificate
This article explains how to obtain a criminal record certificate and which information must be provided for TVDE or delivery driver activities in Portugal.
A criminal record certificate can be requested online, by phone or in person.
Online request
The request can be completed online without the need to travel.
To do so, you must:
- access the Criminal Record Online portal or the ePortugal portal;
- authenticate using your Digital Mobile Key or Citizen Card;
- fill in your personal details and indicate the purpose of the request;
- complete the payment;
- wait to receive the certificate by email or access it through the reserved area of the portal.
If you use a Citizen Card, you may also need:
- a card reader;
- your Citizen Card PIN codes.
Request by phone
The certificate can also be requested by phone through the following numbers:
- 300 003 990
- (+351) 210 489 010
(available on working days from 09:00 to 18:00)
To use this option, you must:
- have your Digital Mobile Key activated;
- have the autenticação.gov app installed on your mobile phone.
During the process, an assistant will help validate your identity and the certificate will later be sent by email.
In-person request
The request may also be completed in person at:
- Citizen Shops (Loja do Cidadão);
- courts;
- authorized public service counters.
Important information for TVDE drivers
When requesting the criminal record certificate for TVDE activity, you should indicate:
- Function: “Driver”
- Purpose: “Profession/activity without special law”
- Function specification: “TVDE Operator - IMT”
- Mention: “Involves regular contact with minors (Law no. 113/2009)”
Important information for delivery drivers
For delivery driver activity, you should indicate:
- Function: “Delivery Driver”
- Purpose: “Profession/activity without special law”
- Function specification: “Delivery Driver”
- Mention: “Involves regular contact with minors (Law no. 113/2009)”
The criminal record certificate is valid for 3 months and should be renewed regularly whenever requested by platforms or competent authorities.
