How to Obtain a TVDE Driver Certificate – Bluwalk
At Bluwalk, we want the process of obtaining the TVDE Driver Certificate to be clear, simple, and transparent. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to get your certificate and what documents and requirements are needed.
Requirements to Start the Process:
To obtain a TVDE certificate, you must meet the following requirements:
-
Speak Portuguese;
-
Hold a category B (light vehicles) driving license issued in Portugal for more than 3 years;
-
If your license is foreign, you must exchange it for a Portuguese driving license before starting the process.
Example: A person with a Brazilian license issued more than 3 years ago who recently exchanged it for a Portuguese license can start the process.
Step 1 – TVDE Training and Group 2 Endorsement
TVDE Training
The TVDE training includes:
-
19 hours of theory (2 days in-person or via videoconference, depending on the training provider);
-
25 hours of e-learning;
-
6 hours of individual driving practice.
Duration: approximately 3 weeks
Cost: starting at €195
Certificate: after completing the training, you will receive the TVDE Training Certificate.
Note: Drivers with a valid taxi license (CMT) are exempt from training but must present a Criminal Record Certificate and request the TVDE certificate from IMT. Cost: €30.
Group 2 Endorsement
To obtain the endorsement, you need:
-
Electronic Medical Certificate issued by a licensed doctor;
-
Psychological Evaluation Certificate issued by a licensed psychologist.
Some training providers can assist with obtaining these documents.
Where to request the endorsement:
-
Citizen’s Bureau (Espaço Cidadão)
-

-

License Renewal:
-
Up to age 70: every 5 years
-
After 70: every 2 years

Must be done within 6 months before the expiration date
-
If the deadline is missed, the initial endorsement must be repeated (for drivers with only a B or BE license with Group 2 endorsement)
Note: Drivers with category C (heavy vehicles) or higher licenses do not need this endorsement.
