How long does it take to charge my Electric Vehicle?
This article discusses the different factors that influence the charging time of your electric vehicle and how to easily estimate it.
The charging time for an electric vehicle depends on several factors, including the type of vehicle, battery capacity, type of charger used, and current battery charge level.
Factors that influence charging time
- Type of vehicle (whether it is a light vehicle, motorcycle, moped, bicycle, etc.);
- Battery type (different batteries, with different capacities, influence charging time);
- Type of charging cable (there are different cables with different power transmission capacities);
- Intensity and type of current available (if charging is done in a household socket, it takes considerably longer than in a PCR - Fast Charging Point);
- Battery level (if the battery is "empty" it will charge more quickly - up to a certain point - than if it is almost "full", i.e. at a level of less than 20% or more than 80%, the charging speed may be slower);
- Ambient temperature (when the temperature is extreme - either cold or hot - it influences the charging time);
How to estimate charging time?
The answer, as much as we would like to standardize it, is never the same for all cases. However, a simple formula for estimating charging time is to divide the battery capacity by the charging power.
