Can I be a TVDE driver without a Portuguese driving license?

No, you cannot work as a TVDE driver in Portugal with only a foreign driver’s license

In most cases, you must regularize your driver’s license with the IMT, either by exchanging it or having it recognized, in order to work as a TVDE driver.

 

What might be required?

Depending on the country of origin of your driver’s license, you may need to:

  • exchange your foreign license for a Portuguese one; 

  • validate or have your license recognized by the IMT; 

  • provide proof of residence in Portugal.

To engage in TVDE activities, the driver’s license must meet the requirements for professional driving in Portugal, including:

  • a Class B driver’s license held for more than 3 years;

  • a Group 2 endorsement (code 997).
