Requirements to become a TVDE driver

To operate as a TVDE driver in Portugal, several legal requirements must be met.

These requirements ensure safety, service quality, and compliance with national regulations.

Main requirements

To become a TVDE driver, you must:

• Hold a category B driving licence for more than 3 years

• Have a Portuguese driving licence

• Be able to communicate in Portuguese

• Hold a valid TVDE driver certificate issued by IMT

TVDE driver certification

To obtain the TVDE certificate, drivers must:

• Complete certified TVDE training

• Obtain the Group II medical clearance

• Submit the required documentation to IMT

Only after certification can drivers legally operate in TVDE activity.

Ongoing obligations

In addition to initial certification, drivers must:

• comply with driving time limits,

• maintain valid documentation,

• meet tax and social security obligations.
